Swansea Falcons are beginning to plan for the 2011-2012 season by refreshing the squad look with new training wear and uniforms. To do this we need to fundraise as much as possible and will be appearing at Gorseinon funday to spread the word.

ICC Nationals was the toughest competition the Falcons have competed at so far. We travelled to Nottingham in high spirits, and after competing successfully on day one we spent time unwinding by going to the Red Hot Buffet and enjoying some team time. We competed on the second day and both teams nailed their routines. Our junior team were small in numbers but did exceptionally well. The coaches were proud of their performance and most importantly, proud of their attitudes and respect for the teams in their division. The senior team have so far not dropped below 2nd in their division, and the quality this year was much higher than previous competitions. Although neither team placed top 4, we came away more  experienced, determined to work and excited for our next trip.

The Falcons senior team travelled to Loughborough University to compete at Future Cheer's Heart of England Competition on the 14th February to showcase their 2010 routine for the first time. After a good night's sleep at our Travelodge, the team arrived fresh faced and ready to face the competition with a smile. We were welcomed with team games and an opportunity for members to show off their tumbling skills, a great way to warm up and get ready for the showdown. Then came performance time. The team were nervous, our pyramid sequence was harder than what we had done before, but the Falcons perform under pressure and not a hairbow was out of place. The team were thrilled! Now we just had to wait for the results, and purchase some new cheer wear to calm the nerves. The level 2 division continues to get stronger and this competition it was noticable. We came a very pleasing 2nd place to EMCA, a well derserved winning team.

Swansea Falcons have appeared on the BBC2 Wales programme 'Sport Wales'. The BBC camera crew followed the team to the Future Cheer International Championships in Brighton on July 2009, where they used the team as an example of Welsh cheerleading. Other Welsh teams showcased were Academy Allstars from Cardiff, South Wales Storm from Caerphilly and Rhondda Rockets.

Swansea Falcons attended the Future Cheer International Cheerleading Championships on 4th and 5th July 2009, taking their junior and senior teams to compete in the level 2 divisions. The junior team was made up of both new and experienced members, and were very pleased to take home 5th place in their division. The coaches could not have asked more of this team, they worked very hard and pull together to fight the nerves and put on a brilliant performance!

The senior team competed on the Sunday, they performed amazingly, although with a few tiny hitches. When the results were announced, the team couldn't believe it when they had made the top three, but the announcer kept going, we had come 1st! NATIONAL CHAMPIONS!

Jess and Chloe would like to say well done to each and every member for making the Swansea Falcons first season one we will never forget. Bring on the new season with more hard work, fun and hurdles to climb.....TOAST!

In early 2009 Head Coach Jessica will be starting cheerleading classes at the Glamorgan Health Club in Neath. These classes will be running every Wednesday evening, 7.00-8.00 for ages 8-11 and 8.00-9.00 for 12+. If you are interested in starting cheerleading this is a great way to see if it is for you, as you can have fun without the pressures of competition. Some of our award winning competition team will be on hand to help out and to showcase just what you can achieve by being part of such a great team.

Well done everyone the open day was a success! The team performed four routines, sold cakes, drinks and raffle tickets. They also let the audience have a go at stunting too! We managed to raise an amazing 263 pound towards our trip to ICC Nationals!

Swansea Falcons are holding an Open day on Sunday 7th December at West Street Gymnastics Centre, 3.00-4.30. The Open Day is intended to raise money for the team to compete at the National championships next year. During the open day you will be able to see the team perform a number of routines including their 1st place junior routine! You will also be able to get some information on the team if you are interested in joining. We will be selling cakes, hot drinks and squash during the day, and will be holding a raffle with some fabulous prizes. Please give generously to the team and come along if you are interested in cheerleading! Entry is 2 pound, under 8's go free.

Swansea Falcons have returned from Jungle Fever as Junior 2 Champions and with a 2nd place for Senior 2!

Tryout info!

 

Swansea Falcons will be holding tryouts for their competition teams on Sunday 23rd November during their normal practice time. To be able to tryout, you must attend the 3 Sunday sessions leading up to the 23rd. These are the 2nd, 9th and the 16th November. It is unusual to hold mid-season tryouts, but we have decided to do it due to the number of new members we have. We also need to separate the junior and senior teams more and feel that things would work better with an improved structure.

 

Do not worry, these tryouts will be relaxed so don’t get too nervous about it. Tryouts will be for new and old members, and everyone must tryout. If you unable to make the session, you will need to speak to the coaches to see if we can agree on an alternative. For the tryout, you will be expected to showcase your ability in a number of regions. These will be stunting, tumbling, jumps, motions and dance. A short dance, cheer and jump sequence will be taught in the 3 weeks leading up to the tryout, where you will be able to ask the coaches as many questions as you like regarding the material. For your tryout, you will not be alone. We will ask you to perform what you have learnt in front of the coaches and captains in groups of 4 or 5. Stunts will be accessed throughout the 3 practices and the tryout day.

 

We will also be accessing you on your commitment, your dedication and your ability to work as part of a team. It may be the case that we do not pick the strongest tumbler or base just because they are good at it, we may choose someone else based on their ability to work well with others. Some members will be asked to perform double duty. This means you will be in more than one team.

 

The teams we will be taking to competition will be as follows:

 

Junior Level 2, ages 8-14

Senior Level 2, ages 11+

 

Everyone that attends the sessions and the tryout will make a team. Please be sure you want to tryout before doing so as being on the competition team requires certain responsibilities. You must attend Sunday practice every week without fail, fees for competitions must be paid on time and in full to ensure you keep your place. If you do not already have a uniform then you must purchase one with enough time to have it made and delivered for our Cardiff competition on 24th January 2009.
